The planar field optical system, also re- ferred to as a focusing lens, is a special lens imaging the focal point in a planar printing plane (a marking field).
Two-dimensional laser beam movements are commonly effected by fast-moving optical systems, "flying optics", that are characterized by high beam transmission quality in combination with high translational acceleration and speed.
Transmitting optical systems (such as lenses) or reflecting optical systems (such as mirrors) may be used as focusing elements.
Likewise, special-purpose optical systems may be installed in the optical path be- tween the collimating and focusing optics.
